I'm in the process of relocating my battery to the boot. I'm over-engineering the install as far as "street specification" go but I don't know what specs CAMS places on batteries. This is what I've done so far:

A 5mm thick aluminium plate is bolted in 8 places to the boot floor pan using 4mm high tensile bolts. On the plate are two 10mm high tensile bolts, which are used to hold the battery clamp, thus the battery in place. The battery is within a plastic battery box which is currently not sealed; I will be sealing it myself. I will also being adding a vent tube even though my battery is a dry cell. A 100A circuit breaker will be located on the box so the +ve lead is protected. All power cables will be 4gauge rated @ 120A continous.

The only possible problem I can see is if CAMS requires a metal battery box not a plastic one. Jai, as you were scrutineering last time, what's your take on this? Anyone else?

Glenn.

plastic is fine and actually better than metal as it is corrosion proof. as long as its a proper battery box and both the box and the battery are secure and cannot move then it is sufficient for CAMS

What passes scrutineering varies, in my experience. I had a reloction to the rear held down by multiple 400kg straps which passed WASCC scutineering for Hill climbs and super sprints; but the kwinana Motoplex guys said not sufficient for drags, use metal tiedowns inside the battery box before I presented again.
So I have. Overdoing it is probably better in the end and an xx kg battery flying around the cabin is not good news.

Fior info, I did crash the car into a lightpost at about 50 kph and the box moved around a bit under the straps. Safe, but I do wonder what would ahppen at say 120kph at a barbagallo corner. I hope I don't get to report on the metal tiedowns under similar conditions.
